Just to preface this post: McGill was built up in 1910 and is considered a semi-ghost town. Yup, I'm a semi-ghost. It was built solely as a mining town and there was a smelter above the town. The Nevada Mining Company built all these houses for their employees. There are some super nice mansions that were built for the mining executives, but mine is not one of those. Rumor has it that the company built all the houses at the same time, one room at a time. They are all put together weird. My house has been rebuilt (rather badly) and is actually one of the nicer ones in this weird semi-ghost town. They are all pretty darn small. If my house looks cluttered, that's because it is! There is no room for anything.
Here's my house:
This is the front room from the front door.
Hopes and dreams:
Paint! The entire house is painted white and I hate it! It's so hard to keep clean. It's bright, but not warm.
Kitchen from my couch:
Hopes and dreams:
We are going to get rid of that hutch monstrosity and instead put a bookcase by the fridge.
I want to add an island or something.
We are also going to close off that wall behind the microwave and close off the area where the washer and dryer are.
It looks like the previous owners had had a spackle fight so the floor never looks clean. I want new tile or linoleum.
There are a total of two plug ins in the entire kitchen! There is one by the toaster and one behind the fridge. The microwave is plugged in behind the dryer and the oven is plugged in behind the TV in the living room. Must...have...more...plug-ins.
The fan has no light and that corner is dark so we have to add a light.
This picture shows the weirdness of two of the bedrooms. Beastie's is off the living room, Buggy's and ours are off the kitchen. The table doesn't really fit. It's so weird.
Buggy's room from the kitchen. Yup, that door is to the bathroom.
Buggy's room from the bathroom. His room is basically a glorified hallway.
I've gotta get the piano out of there!!!! We want to move it where the ugly hutch is.
We also want to paint it light blue and then decorate with airplanes.
The bathroom:
I really want to get a new tub.
I also want a bigger mirror above the sink. This one is a bit too high and I can barely see myself.
The master bedroom from the bathroom:
The front of the house:
Hopes and dreams:
New siding!
Get rid of the ugly trees.
Grow grass.
We are going to let a creeper take over the chain link fence to add a bit of privacy. Chain link is tacky.
We are going to grow some tall trees along the wood fence because from the road that fence is about 2 feet tall.
This is the backyard from Buggy's room. It's big.
From the back:
We are going to put a garden and a shed here, not this back corner but the other one.
We want to add a back patio.
TREES!!
So, we have a cute, little, weird house. We like it because it is ours, but it is weird. The weirdest things are the bathroom and it doesn't have a foundation and to get under the house there is a trap door thingy through the porch. We store stuff down there. The water heater and furnace are down there. It's weird.
As my ma says, the house has a lot of potential. C'mon tax returns!
Sari, You do not know how much I would LOVE to come visit and play with your house! And I'm so glad you FINALLY put pictures up for us to see! Yeah, if we had the extra moolah (and didn't have to just buy a new furnace)I'd be there in a second. I see the potential!!! And I love the living room curtains and the chair in there and the one in your room. Those are nice!
ReplyDeleteAlso, our kitchen is tiny and there isn't any storage either! We store things like the crock pot and extra tupperware in the basement. And we are desperate to knock down the wall to the dining room and add an island there too.
ReplyDeleteYou might think this is weird, but your house has such cute doors! Half of ours has the really cool old ones but they don't close very tight and the other half of the house has cheap plain brown ones.
Your house is like my house. WHITE!! All the walls are white except Rhys room, which I noticed that you didn't like,(I didn't do it!!) and the guest bedroom. You'll see that when you come see me!! Your house has a lot of personality. One day you guys will look back and say, "remember our house in McGill? It was such a blast!"
ReplyDeleteYour bathroom is so weird!! That's so crazy that you have to go through the bedrooms to get there. I love your backyard though! We're going to send Sasha to come play in the snow in your yard.
The house is just waiting for Megs to come make it beautiful. That woman can work wonders. The fun thing about owning your own house is that you can do things and make improvements if you want to. No way I'm spending the money to fix up someones house that I'm just renting from.
I'm glad that you posted those picts for all of us to see!!
thanks for letting us all see your place!
ReplyDeleteI love your cute little house. What an adventure you are having! I agree that the bathroom and plug in situation is really weird. I agree with Eva. One day you will look back on these days fondly! Just enjoy the now!!
ReplyDeleteLots of love!
